Farming in eastern province is among the most affected sectors. The place is known as Rwanda’s heart for livestock farming, is now grappling with an unusual dry season.
During my tour, on July 27, I met a local farmer named John Kayinamura, whose pride in his cattle was evident in the way he spoke about them. “This land has always been generous,” he said, gesturing to the parched fields. “But now, we fear for our cows. The grass is gone, and so is the water.” His voice wavered, reflecting the weight of uncertainty hanging over the community.
As we walked through the dried-up fields, we saw that the cows, usually robust and well-fed, now looked thin and listless.
